Aryan Mystery???
Do you like mysteries? My wife does. The Aryans are a civilization filled with mystery. They appear in the east, in the west, and every where. From the root of their language many ancient civilizations languages have spread. These Indo European people did not leave the same artifacts as other ancient civilizations.
They appear and then they are gone only to reappear again. This is a mystery ripe for exploitation. Hitler used it as the foundation for his superior race theories.
Maybe we will find one part of the answer to this mystery by the end of this book. This civilization has given me a major brain freeze and writers block. How can people in Asia call people in Western Europe brothers? These nomadic horse people seem to have originated somewhere in Turkey and then migrated east and west from that point after some kind of flood in the Black Sea. The plot thickens…
The hot spot to identify them is in the Ganges in India. That is because they are referred to in the Indian Vedas. This was the time period of around 1500BC. They were warriors who liked eating, drinking, music, chariot races and dice games. Hey! They sound a lot like Americans! They acted like “The Ugly American Tourist” as well. They did not respect the original inhabitants of the Indus Valley, the Dravidians. The Aryans eventually settled down through intermarriage around 800 BC. That is why they are placed here in the book’s pecking order of civilizations. But, they were around much earlier than that. They were in Western Europe and England and Italy as early as 2000 BC.
We seem to know their vices all to well. What about their virtues? I suppose this civilization has gotten the best of me. They are probably a little to close to home. You see I too am an “Ugly American” and proud of it. There is license to bash this civilization with self deprecating humor with my tongue in cheek because they belong to nobody and yet they are everybody. The Aryans pride can be spun as self reliance. Self reliance is a virtue whose elements are individualism, freedom and independence. I suppose it is the reason that one of my favorite authors is Emerson. Yes! Emerson is an American. This is our first ideological noun in the Language of virtue.
Tower of Babel from Genesis 11. (Did the dispersion of the Indo Europeans have its origin in the tower of Babel?)
Genesis 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
